Celebrating Danish design with H W Klein

I’m a big fan of Danish design, its both functional and minimalist without compromising on style.  A movement that started in the 1920’s gaining in popularity right up to the 60’s. Danish design stands the test of time, influencing contemporary design, while original pieces continue to hold their value. What’s not to love about it?

So, I’m in my element when I am able to source a rare and unusual piece, such as this H W Klein chaise longue designed for Bramin Mobler. Imported from Denmark the chair retained its original upholstery, but wasn’t in a great state. I stripped the old material away, restored the metal work, and sanded and restored all woodwork with Danish oil. Before adding new fabric I hand stitched the hessian and fibre filling.  An arduous job, but well worth it for the results.

For this project I thought it would be great to keep it Danish and use fabric from Kvadrat.  A textile company I discovered recently following their collaboration with adidas. I picked a gorgeous yellow/mustard wool fabric which compliments the wood nicely.

All in all, this rather complex project took 10 days to restore and upholster –  all of which was done by hand without any staples or tacks.
